Omaha-based Bozell, a creative marketing communications company, is among a select group of national advertising firms vying for real business in the new AMC unscripted series, “The Pitch.” The eight-part series launches with a sneak preview of the premiere episode, featuring SUBWAY® restaurants, on Sunday, April 8 at 10pm CT following the network’s award-winning series “Mad Men” and “The Killing.” The series will then return on Monday, April 30 with a new episode, featuring Waste Management, at 8pm CT followed by an encore showing of the premiere in its regular timeslot at 9pm CT. The episode featuring Bozell will air Sunday, May 27 at 10 p.m. CT.
“In each weekly episode, camera crews shadow a pair of advertising agencies as they develop and present creative campaigns for a national client,” said Kim Mickelsen, managing partner. “The time frame was compressed to less than two weeks from our initial meeting with the client to the final presentation. Otherwise, the process was unscripted and very typical of how we develop a new business pitch.”
Executive produced by Eli Holzman, Stephen Lambert, Phil Lott, Brien Meagher and Aaron Saidman from Studio Lambert (“Undercover Boss”), “The Pitch” chronicles the incredible lengths, intense stakes and tight deadlines top advertising agencies encounter when they take aim at a major new piece of business. The series follows the best creative shops as they prepare campaigns knowing that in the end, it all comes down to the pitch. Real competition, major stakes and an incredible ticking clock are all elements of this docu-style series.
The process was initiated last August when Studio Lambert contacted Bozell to participate. “Initially we were hesitant to participate, but after talking to the producers, we decided to put our name in the hat and were ultimately one of 15 agencies selected,” said Mickelsen. “From the day we were briefed, we had ten days to come up with our pitch.”
Bozell Executive Creative Director Jerry Stoner added, “At first, appearing in front of the cameras was unnerving – we are the ones used to being behind the camera and in control. But eventually, we became immersed in the project and accustomed to the new normal of being filmed and forgot about the cameras.”
In addition to Mickelson and Stoner, the pitch team from Bozell also included two art directors, one copywriter, four web developers, two media planners, and the agency’s social media director.
