Senior Web Developer

WATERLOO, IA

When I was eight, my dad brought home a Tandy from Radio Shack. I would check out books with programs in them from the library, type the lines of code, run the program and play what were usually fun little games. I used to spend the night at a friend’s house, and we would spend all night playing text-based adventure games.

Of course, back then everything on the internet was text.

JOHNSON’S BAKERY – APPRENTICE BAKER

I worked under Denny, the master baker, for four years. From him, I learned about leadership and the value of hard work.

He was the first one there and the last to leave.

These lessons in work ethic would come in handy when I later ran my own business.

GLOBAL LYNX – WEB DEVELOPER

My brother started Global Lynx and knew I was into computers, so he asked if I wanted to help get things off the ground. From there I just kept learning more about technology and, eventually, websites.

He and I later broke off and started our own company, Extreme Technology.

EXTREME TECHNOLOGY – PART OWNER, WEB DEVELOPER

I learned that when you own a small business, employees are paid first, and sometimes there isn’t any left. I learned the clock doesn’t ding at 5 and you get to go home, and that being a good leader is very difficult.

I primarily managed a team of web developers, but I had a hand in telemarketing, sales and customer service as well.

I didn’t go to college, but really I did, for these 10 years.

BOZELL – SENIOR WEB DEVELOPER

My experience owning and running my own web development business prior to Bozell not only helped me know how to build great websites but understand all the other aspects clients look for and need.

Words to live by: You only have so many ups and downs. One day you sit down and you don’t get back up. (It’s my reminder of how short life can be and to be thankful for my health and happiness.)
